How to win every conversation

A few months ago, I stood on a red dot and gave a TEDx talk.

I speak for a living, but this one felt different.I was a BALL.OF.NERVES.

It felt like walking up to home plate for an at-bat. Bottom of the 9th. Game’s on the line. You get the vibe.

And that’s actually the perfect analogy since the content of my talk started decades earlier on a tee-ball field. The very first sport for so many of us, right?!

It started because sports taught me something I didn't realize I was learning at the time: that every interaction leaves people feeling more like either your teammate... or your opponent.

And it turns out that lesson works just as well in boardrooms, break rooms, living rooms, and group texts.

If you've ever:

  • struggled with a difficult conversation,

  • wished people would stop assuming the worst about each other,or

  • wanted to communicate more effectively without sounding like a corporate training manual…

… then I think you'll find something useful in this talk.

If the message resonates with you, I hope you’ll consider sharing it with a friend, colleague, coach, teacher, leader, spouse, or that one person who keeps replying "per my last email…”

Thanks for being part of this little corner of the internet and for cheering each other on for everything from tee-ball to TEDx.

Gratefully,
